William Lu
Engineering Technician
When my teacher asked me what I wanted my career to be like, I decided to say, "Robotics! Of course!". That spur of the moment decision lead me to pursue Computer Science at San Francisco State University and work on humanoid robotics with some of the greatest minds in the field. I've always been interested in tinkering around on things, so I can't say I regret my younger self's decision. Now I'm at Meta's Burlingame location helping develop and troubleshoot things at their robotics lab
Questions & Answers
How do you make people laugh?
I think bantering is a great way to get closer and laugh with someone. For me, banter works best when there's warmth underneath it. I'm not trying to roast someone into silence. I'm trying to make them feel seen in a playful way.
If you were a tool or piece of equipment, what would you be and why?
I'd want be a multimeter. I check the basics first. Is power getting through? Is the signal real? Is the problem software, hardware, wiring, timing, the operator interface, or some messy combination of all of it? I dont just assume the obvious answer. I test across points, compare against what should be happening, and narrow the issue down layer by layer.
What's your favorite productivity hack or time-saving trick?
My favorite time-saving hack is making a reusable template the second time I do anything. The first time, I just get it done. The second time, I assume it will happen again, so I turn it into a template, checklist, script,
saved message, or repeatable process.
