Jin Lim

Optical Simulations Engineer

As an optical simulations engineer, I design and simulate optical performance in illuminations or eye tracking systems for products in the market. I enjoy working with a group of smart, motivated professionals that are driven to innovate. In addition, with numerous optical software available, I utilize such tools efficiently to solve optical problems for eye tracking systems along with optical waveguides for augmented and virtual reality. I also expect to design new optical products competitive in the market.

My background is Optical Engineering, and my work experience has provided the opportunity to engage with hundreds of optical products including LED lighting, Lidars, optical components such as lenses, waveguides, reflectors, diffusers, and systems design. That diversity of work is what attracted me to Sigma Design in the first place and it remains to be one of the most interesting aspects of my work. My focus has always been to help our client succeed by doing good, consistent, and reliable work.

Questions & Answers

How do you make people laugh?

I enjoy technical discussions and always try to bring a positive mindset. For example, if I have a difficult technical issue or problem working with a team, I talk to group members about how the problem can be solved and at the same time use a positive attitude. I also make a consistent effort to smile. Usually, we find agreement using this positive mindset and smile approach. It?s surprising how often I see results resolved!

If you were a tool or piece of equipment, what would you be and why?

I'd choose to be a software. Software is a key tool for most current products in the market and infinitely useful and capable of solving many different types of key problems. Software also has huge functions to enable machine smarts and work helpful for humans. Their applications may be truly limitless and getting more various, deep, and smart.

What's your favorite productivity hack or time-saving trick?

I utilize macros to run software to run many projects at a time and overnight. Once set up, the software can run consistently and automatically even though I am working on other projects. It is an efficient way to work on multiple projects simultaneously.
