Iain Paul

Engineering Technician

My name is Iain Paul and I am coming from San Diego. I have lived in San Diego my whole life, where I graduated from UCSD and got my first job working as a manufacturing engineer in the semiconductor industry. At this job, I gained a lot of vital experience in ISO, GMP, and MES systems as we focused on semiconductors and automation within our factory. At the end of my time at this company, I was satisfied with how far I grew in terms of my skills. I also knew what kind of company I wanted to work for and what company values I desired, which is where Sigma Design came in.

I am excited to learn as much as I can being an engineering technician at Sigma Design, and I believe that working here will let my career develop in ways I couldn't have without. I believe I work best in a team environment and believe that I can fit into the company values laid out by Sigma Design.

Questions & Answers

How do you make people laugh?

I think personability/relatability is important in making people feel comfortable and to laugh. Not everyone may relate to you and what you have to say, so getting in by relating to something in their life is always a good step, even if it's as something as simple as getting coffee in the morning. It's easier to also laugh when you cultivate a kind environment, so letting people be able to express themselves without judgement is super  important as well.

If you were a tool or piece of equipment, what would you be and why?

If I were a piece of equipment, I would be a level. Metaphorically, this is how I always try to approach things at work and in life. Emotionally charged actions can get out of hand easily, and approaching any situation with a calm and collected mindset will always be preferable. Levels are also super important while building and assembling.

What's your favorite productivity hack or time-saving trick?

I like making a brief checklist of what I have to do. I find that when I structure my tasks like that it's easier to follow for me and I can do the process faster. I prefer to write these out on paper, as it double reinforces what I have to do in my mind as well. It also helps you diagnose questions you might run into while you think the whole process out before you start.
