Giaccomo Rischmoller
Field Service Technician
I worked at Xcellbio as an engineering tech for 4 years, it was a small start-up and thus everyone had to wear many hats. I my day to day ranged from managing inventory, assembly production, troubleshooting, QA, IQOQ, PM, site visits, generating SOP, producing POC, testing & developing, gathering data, analyzing, re-design components, 3D prototyping, and many more...
These tasks were performed as needed by the team, we tried our best to stick to a standard similar to ISO. We were not ISO certified. My position was under the ENG-OPS umbrella, so he handled everything related to the customer from communication, install, services, flying over to the client location, virtual troubleshooting, and more.
Another hat that I wore was media production where I mainly helped with some of the marketing for the company such as headshots, product photography, some graphics (for marathon shirts), videos for LinkedIn and the company website. Mainly I was handling the camera, setting up the shots, and then handing over the media for someone else to edit (mainly due to having to jump back into Eng Tech work). I have developed a very versatile set of skills over the years at Xcellbio, and I think I can refine and perfect those skills with the diligence that Sigma champions.
Questions & Answers
How do you make people laugh?
Understand their sense of humor, and then cater to their taste. Puns and obvious sarcasm tends to work the best, though it has to be used with comedic timing. Comedies comes in threes, repetition of themes help, and/or bringing a joke back around to make a loop out of the conversation.
If you were a tool or piece of equipment, what would you be and why?
I have thought about this question in terms of kitchen tools/appliances. I would be a rolling pin! I am a tool that may not be required for everyday or it may not be in many kitchens. Sure you can replace it and use anything to roll your dough, but a rolling pin does the job well and it provides a comfortable user experience while doing so.
However, if I had to be a tool, I'd say I am a JIS screw driver. Not a tool that is required in everyday life, especially when philips heads are widely available. A JIS screw driver is a nice tool since it protects your screws from being stripped, provides ample leverage to apply torque. Simple design, yet effective user experience.
What's your favorite productivity hack or time-saving trick?
In Spanish we have a saying that roughly translates to "the lazy person does twice the work". Doing something the "proper" way make take longer now, but it will save you time and money in the long-term. I do believe productivity and saving time are not the same metric. Saving time for the sake of seeming productive, tends to be counterproductive.
