David Caldwell

Field Service technician

I started my career right out of High School. Practec LLC was a small shop in Redmond, WA. At Practec I learned how to repair and troubleshoot Variable Frequency Drives. I practiced skills such as: Component level troubleshoot, RCA, oscilloscopes, Huntrons, voltmeters, soldering, calibration, schematics, assembly/disassembly, cleaning, maintenance, and mentoring. I stayed with Practec LLC until it was purchased by Radwell International. At Radwell I expanded what I worked on to include more power distribution systems, PLCs, IO boards, Scanners, and much more. While working for both Practec and Radwell I performed over the phone troubleshooting and when necessary on site troubleshooting for our clients. While working I went back to school to earn a Computer Science degree to acquire the skills to better automate our testing processes. I am now looking for opportunities to bridge the gaps between hardware and software and practice my old and new skills.

Questions & Answers

How do you make people laugh?

I bring dry comedy and long running inside jokes to the table. I have a solid catalog of dad jokes. I enjoy bringing up references from earlier in the conversation to make a funny moment in the present.

If you were a tool or piece of equipment, what would you be and why?

I would be an Oscilloscope. Oscilloscopes are precision tools required for detailed understanding. I dive deep, tracing the time and signal. I will be able to show you the exact moment and cause of failure. Oscilloscopes are very capable tools able to perform the same tasks as a voltmeter and more. Oscilloscopes also integrate into computer systems for automation and efficiency.

What's your favorite productivity hack or time-saving trick?

Planning down time to stay productive. Instead of waiting for the glue to dry, I will start working on the next task or perform the glue operation earlier and other tasks later. Double checking your work before moving on to the next task.
