Austin Wilson

Shop Estimator & CNC Programmer

My name is Austin and I'm a shop estimator and CNC programmer. I have over a decade of machining experience in both Aerospace and the Semiconductor fields. My background in machining is pretty vast from working with various materials such as different types of metal alloys, carbon fiber, and all sorts of composites. Before joining the Sigma team, I was a production supervisor for an aerospace company who focused on high-precision and production machining for large profile customers. I focused the majority of my time optimizing programs, mentoring machinists, and quoting incoming jobs.

Questions & Answers

How do you make people laugh?

I find the light in dark situations. Sometimes it helps if there is someone who can find the positivity when times are stressful.

If you were a tool or piece of equipment, what would you be and why?

I'd be an endmill. Endmills are one of the most versatile tools you can use to make anything you imagine. In just about any application an endmill is useful, from cutting complex geometry to simply interpolating a bore or profiling a part. From basic concepts to the most extreme ideas, I can always find a way to be helpful.

What's your favorite productivity hack or time-saving trick?

Organization. Without it there is no direction, and trying to tackle the highest priorities would be next to impossible without identifying and categorizing what you have on your plate.
