Sigma Design has collaborated with an aerospace and precision manufacturing company seeking an experienced CWI to join their facility in Clackamas, OR. This company is an aerospace fabrication and machining shop.

  • $70,000 - $90,000 annually
Primary Function:
The Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) is responsible for ensuring welded products and processes meet applicable quality, safety, and regulatory standards through inspection, documentation, and collaboration with manufacturing and engineering teams.

Essential Job Functions - Responsibilities:
  • Perform detailed visual inspections of welds to verify compliance with AWS, ASME, and applicable industry standards
  • Review welding procedures, welder qualifications, and material certifications for compliance with specifications and requirements
  • Identify weld defects or inconsistencies and recommend corrective actions to maintain product integrity and safety
  • Prepare inspection reports and maintain accurate quality documentation and records
  • Collaborate with welding, engineering, and quality teams to support continuous improvement initiatives and quality objectives
  • Interpret engineering drawings, welding procedure specifications (WPS), and technical documentation
  • Follow Business Technology policies to protect sensitive data and reduce information security occurrences.

Education and Experience: (Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities)
  • Current AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) certification required
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in welding inspection or related quality assurance role preferred
  • Strong knowledge of welding processes, metallurgy, and applicable industry codes and standards
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, welding procedures, and technical documentation
  • Experience with aerospace welding standards including AWS D17.1
  • Familiarity with ISO 9001, NADCAP, or similar quality management systems preferred
  • Experience with non-destructive testing methods preferred
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with excellent attention to detail
  • Proficiency with digital inspection tools and quality reporting systems preferred
  • ITAR – Must be a US Citizen
  • Background - Pass a post-offer background verification.

Work Environment
Standard machine shop environment with various types of machinery. Appropriate safety garments (PPE) must be worn. Must be able to stand and work as long as 12 hours in different positions. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds unassisted.
