As SIGMADESIGN gears up for another year of business, I find myself reflecting on how far the team has come. We have grown from a few people working in a small space to an award-winning firm with nearly 300 employees. We now work collaboratively from our 57,000 square foot headquarters in Camas, Washington and our office in Singapore.
2017 Milestones
2017 delivered some especially exciting milestones. We worked on over 750 projects and our customer base continued to grow and diversify. The Singapore office brought in their largest contract ever in 2017 and we’ve expanded our reach in the US to include services for clients in Palo Alto, Seattle, Michigan, and Corvallis by adding Engineers and other professionals in those areas. The size of our team surged by a remarkable 56%. We started the year with 180 employees and ended at 281. This increased the skill-sets in all areas of our team and allowed us to grow our service offerings. This expansion is strategic to SIGMADESIGN’s long-term goals.
Getting our new HP Multi Jet Fusion 4200 3D printer was also exciting. We have been printing like crazy as we take advantage of the technology to improve our product development process.
New Horizons
As a result of these milestones, we made adjustments that will continue to improve our level and quality of service for the coming year. Our headquarters moved to a larger facility to accommodate our growth and client needs. The move started in June and I am finally feeling like this place is home. There are certainly a few odds and ends that need to be taken care of, but I suspect that with such a large facility, there will always be changes taking place.
We have also been working on the implementation of a new ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) software package. This is the software we use to “run the company”. Everything including accounting, quoting, resource planning and work flow is being touched – all to improve our quality and delivery to our clients.
Every year, we plan for continued improvement by developing strategic initiatives with input from all of our employees. For 2018, we’re focused on bringing even more personnel on board in order to continue growing our service offerings. We plan to increase our software and firmware capabilities, expanding our test expertise, and increasing our prototyping capacity and capabilities as well as production/manufacturing. As always we will continue to emphasize our fun and employee focused culture.
Looking back on the past 12 months, I am very proud of the strides we made as an organization. As I look forward to new horizons in 2018, I’ll strive to keep the team forging ahead providing great design and engineering services to our clients, and having loads of fun doing it. We look forward to new adventures as your design and engineering partner.
Best,
Bill
